Eamon Melaugh.
Eamon Melaugh is the founding member of Action with Effect and has been a human rights activist for all his adult life. His primary concern has and remains for the marginalised and disposed. Eamon has been in the vanguard of the struggle against discrimination in housing and employment and is a staunch supporter of the rights of women.
Since 1992 Eamon has travelled to six 3rd world countries spread over three continents working with the destitute, particularly street children. He has been responsible for the construction of over 70 brick and mortar houses for lepers in India. 8 schools have been provided for 2000 ‘Untouchable’ destitute children who receive a free education and school meals, comprehensive medical, dental and optical care is also provided.
Eamon is painfully aware that almost 30,000 destitute children die every day, directly from starvation, or dreadful diseases resulting from malnutrition. He correctly describes himself as an “extraordinary ordinary person” who has set a compassionate example, that all may follow.
